City Improves 15.19 Miles of Streets in 2022

Moreland School Road 7hwy to 12th

Blue Springs Public Works completed pavement improvements on more than 15 miles of streets this summer as part of the 2022 Street Improvement Program.

Of the more than 80 streets on the 2022 list, 12 of those were total reconstructions – which means the entire roadway was removed and replaced. This includes the reconstruction of Moreland School Road from east of 12th Street to 7 Hwy., which is a continuation of the 2021 project on Moreland School Road from Liggett to just east of 12th Street. Other reconstruction projects completed in 2022 included Lake Village Blvd from Moreland School Road to Brandywine and South Ave. from 7 Hwy to 10th Street.

In addition to the total reconstruction projects, 36 streets were rehabilitated with a new overlay – including NW Duncan Road from 6th Terrace to east of Adams Dairy Parkway and NE Coronado/RD Mize from approximately the Marriott hotel to the eastern City limits.

The 2022 Street Improvement Program also improved 30 sections of roadway with a surface treatment process. The goal of the surface treatments is to extend the life expectancy of the street for another 7-10 years before a full overlay process is needed.

The City allocated $6.6 million to the Street Improvement Program in the 2022 budget, the largest amount of City street miles rehabbed since 2009.

Street Selection

The City uses data to select the street sections for improvement each year based on the street’s traffic volume, condition, and age. To measure the condition of the streets, the City uses data from a comprehensive inspection and evaluation process. During this process, a special truck drives each City Street to record, evaluate and measure the variations in the pavement and the bounce of the vehicle as it drives over each section. The data is then evaluated, and a street condition rating is applied.
