The Blue Springs City Council unanimously confirmed the appointment of the City’s new City Administrator and City Prosecutor at the Monday, April 18, City Council meeting.
After a lengthy and diligent nationwide search, Mayor Carson Ross has selected Mike Ekey as the City’s next City Administrator.
“I am confident in Mike’s ability to lead our community as the next City Administrator. As a resident of Blue Springs, Mike already has a passion for our beautiful City and he has the experience and enthusiasm to take us to the next level,” said Mayor Carson Ross.
Ekey has most recently served as the Assistant City Manager of Raymore, Mo., where he led strategic planning initiatives, the development of the annual budget and Capital Improvement Programs and spearheaded economic development initiatives.
"When my family moved to Blue Springs several years ago, I never imagined I'd have the opportunity to join the incredible team at City Hall. I am thrilled to be working with the Mayor, City Council and staff, and look forward to serving the residents of our great community each and every day" Ekey said.
As City Administrator, Ekey will work under the direction of the Mayor and City Council to oversee the entire City operations including strategic planning, direction, personnel management and budget preparation.
Ekey’s start date will be May 31.
Council to Approve City Prosecutor Appointment
Likewise, the City Council will also be considering the approval of Michael J. Hunt as the new City Prosecutor on Monday April 18.
Hunt has decades of experience as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, and is currently Chief Trial Attorney in that office. He has prosecuted more than 250 cases to bench and jury trial.
As Blue Springs City Prosecutor, Hunt will be responsible for prosecuting all actions in the City's Municipal Court and trials de novo, appeals, and jury trials in the Circuit Court of Jackson County.
“Michael Hunt has substantial experience as a prosecuting attorney in the Eastern Jackson County area for the last several decades and I am excited that he will be bringing his expertise to the City of Blue Springs,” Ross said.
Hunt’s start date will be May 23.
