The City of Blue Springs is utilizing CARES Act funds to assist families that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 through a collaboration with the Community Services League (CSL) to help them pay off delinquent rent and utility bills. The City Council unanimously approved funding at the October 19, 2020, City Council meeting.

“We are thrilled to be able to allocate a portion of CARES funding to our residents who need it most,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “This has been a tough year for many of our citizens and our hope is these funds will help families keep a roof over their heads during these unprecedented times.”

The Housing Assistance Program is being administered by CSL. Residents who have delinquent utility, rent, or mortgage bills may visit the website, www.cslcares.org/bluespringscaresact. Applications will be accepted at the CSL office in Blue Springs, 200 SW 10th St. Applicants should be advised that it may take 3-4 weeks before disbursement of funds.

“We are pleased to collaborate with the City of Blue Springs to help those families that need it most,” said Melodie Chrisman, CSL’s Blue Springs Site Manager. “Rent and utility bills continue to be a worry for those that have lost jobs or been asked to stay home due to a COVID-19 exposure. Since March, we’ve seen a record numbers of requests for assistance, and this Housing Assistance Program is coming at a good time to continue to help Blue Springs families.”

Residents who wish to apply for the program are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. Those that meet requirements may be connected with the LIHEAP utility assistance program prior to participation in this new program. Applications will be processed in person at the CSL office at 200 Southwest 10th Street, Blue Springs, MO 64015. The office added extended hours and are open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. until Noon, and

1 p.m. to 4p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to Noon. Potential applicants are asked to review the requirements and frequently asked questions at www.cslcares.org/bluespringscaresact prior to going to the office.
