The City of Blue Springs has received an additional $158,235 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds as part of the CARES Act.

The City will allocate $135,000 of those funds to a small business loan program and the remaining $23,235 to the Community Services League.

“We’re very pleased to be able to give put these funds back into our community toward the businesses and residents who need it most during this difficult time,” said Mayor Carson Ross.

The Small Business Loan Program would assist qualifying microenterprises and small businesses with retaining low-moderate income jobs during the COVID-19 crisis.

Small businesses with up to 15 employees will be eligible for loans ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 based on number of employees. The City anticipates between 13 and 27 businesses would benefit from these funds.

The $23,235 to be allocated to the Blue Springs Community Services League would assist residents with housing and utility payments for low-moderate income households.

The funding allocation was reviewed by the CDBG Advisory Committee prior to a public hearing and subsequent approval by the City Council on June 1 and sent to the Department of Housing and Urban Development for final approval, which was signed June 26.
