[ARCHIVED] City rehabilitates more than 14.25 miles of City Streets

15th street new overlayBLUE SPRINGS, MO – This summer, the City of Blue Springs has rehabilitated more than 14.25 miles of City streets through the Pavement Management Program. More than 8.75 miles were completely resurfaced through milling and overlay, including: SE Eastridge Drive, SE AA Hwy from Adams Dairy Parkway to U.S. 40, NW 15 Street from RD Mize to South Outer Road, Walnut from Missouri 7 Hwy to Sunnyside School Road, NW Jefferson Street from R.D. Mize to Missouri 7 Hwy and many more.

In addition, a surface treatment that is designed to extend the life of previously paved streets will be applied to the remaining 5.5. miles included in the 2019 Pavement Management Program.

Projects were selected based on many criteria including: volume, condition, age and the Pavement Quality Index (PQI). The PQI is based on a variety of data collected through the 2016 street audit, in which every public street and city-owned parking lot was scanned and surveyed to analyze and asses the City’s pavement conditions. A subsequent survey and analysis by the same firm using the latest technology will be performed again this summer to determine the current condition and help to show how the road network is aging. Some wear faster than others. The survey/inspection will be conducted every three years to allow the Pavement Management Program to monitor the trend of the system, which will help determine the funding needed to maintain the road system to a given level of service.

The Pavement Management Program is designed to extend the useful life of public streets and provides for a safe, reliable road network in the City.
