BLUE SPRINGS, MO – Blue Springs business owners and community leaders, Jim and Trisha Kennedy were honored with the Missouri Municipal League West Gate Division Civic Leadership Award on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the annual awards banquet. The Kennedy’s were nominated by City of Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross.
“Jim and his daughter, Trisha, have been fixtures in the Blue Springs community for many years,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “They are kind and compassionate and always looking for ways to give back. We are lucky to have this wonderful family and long-standing family-owned business in Blue Springs and I am honored to be able to present them with the 2019 Missouri Municipal League – West Gate Division Civic Leadership Award.”
The Kennedy’s, owners of Kennedy’s Custom Jewelers, have been active in the Blue Springs community for more than 35 years. Jim and Trisha have been active in many different community organizations throughout the years. They are both lifetime members of the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Blue Springs Rotary Club they have also both served on the Board of the Rainbow Center, a foundation for communicative disorders. Trisha currently serves on the Blue Springs Education Foundation Board and volunteers with the Truman Heartland Community Foundation. In addition to all of this, and running a successful family-owned business, Jim serves as the pastor for the Reach Out Missionary Baptist Church in Blue Springs and Trisha serves as the church’s clerk.
The Kennedy family has always been extremely generous to the community, and their business, Kennedy’s Custom Jewelers donates more than $30,000 a year to various local scholarship funds and charitable organizations.
The West Gate Division of the Missouri Municipal League hosts a Civic Leadership Award Banquet annually at the organization’s July meeting. This banquet gives West Gate communities an opportunity to recognize the exceptional contributions of business and civic leaders in developing stronger cities. Mayors of participating municipalities select an outstanding civic leader in his or her community. The West Gate Region of the Missouri Municipal League consists of member municipalities in the five metropolitan counties of Jackson, Clay, Platte, Ray and Cass.
