The Blue Springs Police Department’s Community and Youth Outreach Unit is sponsoring its 20th annual National Night Out Against Crime (NNO) on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, from 5:30-8 p.m. This free, family event will be held in the Municipal Parking Lot located at 11th and Smith Street in downtown Blue Springs. NNO brings together residents, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials for an evening focused on crime prevention and safety.
Councilman Dale Carter, Blue Springs native and morning show host for Country 94.1 KFKF, will be broadcasting live from the event which will feature Mac the Maverick from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy hay rides through Downtown Blue Springs from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Among the participating organizations are: Blue Springs Police Department, Central Jackson County Fire Protection District, Crime Stoppers/TIPS Hotline, Lee’s Summit Underwater Rescue & Recovery Team, Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and many more.
“National Night Out is an important outreach event that allows our officers to personally interact with our community,” said National Night Out Coordinator Doug Heishman of the Blue Springs Police Department. “It’s the perfect family outing with information about crime prevention, health and safety, as well as free food, games, prizes, live entertainment and much more.”
Mayor Ross encourages residents to take part in this year’s National Night Out Against Crime saying it is, “an important step to strengthening the crime prevention partnership between police, residents and the community at large. This free event gives residents the opportunity to meet Blue Springs officers and civilians working to keep our community safe. By stepping out on a unified front, we’re sending a message to criminals letting them know that Blue Springs’ neighborhoods are organized and fighting back to prevent crime in our community.”
