[ARCHIVED] Central Jackson County Emergency Management Agency Announces Nixle – Community Information System

CENTRAL JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. – The Central Jackson County Emergency Management Agency (CJCEMA) has contracted with Everbridge Nixle, a Community Information System. Nixle provides officials the ability to quickly deliver alerts and advisories to targeted areas or the entire covered region.  This free service is available to all Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Lake Tapawingo and unincorporated Jackson County residents covered in the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District.

Community members are encouraged opt-in as soon as possible either online or by text message. Users can visit nixle.com and follow the site instructions for residents. Routine information will be requested including your address or closest cross-street as well as how you want to receive notifications. Individuals can also opt-in by simply texting your zip code (example: 64015) to 888777.

Beginning on Wednesday, March 1, Nixle will replace the current CodeRED Emergency Notification Network. Individuals signed up with CodeRED will no longer receive emergency notifications and will need to register with Nixle to receive emergency notifications going forward.

“We encourage all individuals who live or work in the area to sign up for notifications,” said Assistant Emergency Management Director Les Boatright.  “Nixle delivers real-time, geographically relevant information over multiple channels.  We are fortunate to have this great communication resource, but it only works if people take a few seconds and get registered.”

Nixle is being provided at no cost to users and it allows subscribers a higher level of control over what type of information they receive. There are four tiers of information that users can sign up for: emergency alerts, advisories for less urgent need-to-know information, day-to-day community information and localized traffic information. Only authenticated agencies can publish information through the Nixle platform which guarantees users are receiving reliable data and not spam messaging. Nixle does not track users and data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes.

For more information about Nixle, please contact Assistant Emergency Management Director Les Boatright at 816-229-2522 or by emailing lboatright@cjcfpd.org

The CJCEMA is an emergency management agency consisting of the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District, the City of Blue Springs, Grain Valley, LakeTapawingo and surrounding unincorporated areas.

The EOC is located at the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District’s Training Center and brings together representatives from Police, Fire, Public Works and Emergency Management agencies.
