Blue Springs, Mo. – All are invited to the City of Blue Springs’ 2016 Annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Tuesday, December 6. This is a free, family holiday event that will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will take place outside City Hall at 903 W. Main Street in downtown Blue Springs, Mo.
“This special event draws hundreds of children and families to downtown Blue Springs for a unique holiday experience,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “It’s a wonderful tradition in our community and a great way to celebrate the closeness and the spirit of giving that exists within our city.”
Pete Grigsby with KMBC Channel 9 and teacher for the Blue Springs School District, will join Mayor Ross as Master of Ceremonies. The live countdown to the tree lighting will take place between 6:15 and 6:20 p.m. Mayor Ross will be joined by the Nakahodo family as they flip the switch and light the official Blue Springs Christmas Tree.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in an Enchanted Sleigh immediately following the tree lighting and several mascots will join Mayor Ross to welcome visitors to this free community event. Complementary hot dogs donated by Blue Springs HyVee, desserts and hot chocolate donated by Cosentino’s Price Chopper, and popcorn donated by the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce will be available. Craft activities for children will be located inside City Hall – crafts donated by the VFW Post #6603.
This year’s concert is sponsored by the City of Blue Springs, Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce, America’s Community Bank, Blue Springs HyVee and Cosentino’s Price Chopper. Scheduled to perform during the program are: Cordill Mason 4th & 5th Grade Extracurricular Choir, Franklin Smith Elementary Choir and the Sunny Pointe Elementary Choir.
