Blue Springs, Mo. – All are invited to the City of Blue Springs’ 2014 Annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Tuesday, December 2nd. This is a free, family holiday event that will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will take place outside City Hall, 903 W. Main Street, in downtown Blue Springs, Missouri.
“This is a special event that draws hundreds of children and families to downtown Blue Springs for this unique holiday experience,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “It’s a wonderful tradition in our community and a great way to celebrate the closeness and the sprit of giving that exists within our city.”
Pete Grigsby, former meteorologist for KMBC Channel 9 and teacher for the Blue Springs School District will join Mayor Ross as Master of Ceremonies. The countdown to the tree lighting will take place live between 6:15 and 6:20 p.m. Mayor Ross will be joined by retiring City Clerk Kathy Richardson and her grandchildren: Tanner Richardson, Jack, Maya and Gemma Alexander as they flip the switch and light the official Blue Springs Christmas tree.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in an Enchanted Sleigh immediately following the tree lighting. Several mascots will join Mayor Ross to welcome visitors to this free community event. Complementary hot dogs, cookies, hot chocolate, and candy canes donated by Price Chopper and popcorn donated by the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce will be available. Craft activities for children will be located inside City Hall – crafts donated by the VFW Post #6603.
During this celebration, the City welcomes attendees to record holiday greetings on camera at City Hall. A small area inside of City Hall will be set up from 5:30-6 p.m. and later from 7-8 p.m. These greetings will air during the month of December between regular CTV-7 programming available on both Comcast Cable Channel 7 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.
