Blue Springs, Mo. – The City has received multiple calls alerting us that scammers were calling them to demand money, claiming an affiliation with the City of Blue Springs.
The scammer is “spoofing” a City of Blue Springs phone number – 816-228-0135 – to show up on potential victims’ caller IDs. People receiving the calls have reported that it was an automated female voice, claiming that they owed a past due balance.
Residents should be aware that the City does not use an automated call service for past due accounts and will send reminder notices through the mail on delinquent accounts.
If you receive such a call, do not provide any financial or personal information. Hang up. Some of the scammers have been persistent and called repeatedly. You can report the number as a harassing caller to your phone company, who may be able to block the caller.
Residents may also make a police report by calling (816) 228-0151.
