[ARCHIVED] Construction begins on Phase II of Woods Chapel Road; Old Mill Park closed to motorists

Blue Springs, Mo. – Construction on Phase II of the Woods Chapel Road Reconstruction Project will begin at the south end which will include the closure of the vehicle entry to Old Mill Park. The park will remain open to the public, but closed to motorists during construction.

“Closing the vehicle entry to Old Mill Park during Phase II of the Woods Chapel Road Reconstruction Project allows us to reduce the overall cost of the project and speeds up the construction process,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “We appreciate your continued patience as we work to make these infrastructure improvements.”

Utility companies have completed relocating conduits, boxes, poles and major fiber optic interconnect lines over the last 15 months. The construction contract with Amino Brothers was approved at the July 7, 2014 City Council meeting and a notice to proceed has been issued with an effective date of August 18, 2014. The project includes realigning and widening the roadway, adding a roundabout at the Walnut Street intersection, and creating bicycle and pedestrian pathways.

Woods Chapel Road will remain open throughout the course of the project but motorists should expect construction-related delays. As the project progresses this fall, Walnut Street will need to be closed at Woods Chapel Road during the construction of the roundabout; notice will be given in advance of that closure. For both the safety of construction workers and drivers, we urge commuters to be cautious in work zones.
