Blue Springs, Mo. – In celebration of National Public Works Week, the City of Blue Springs’ Public Works Department will host an open house on Wednesday, May 21 from 5-7 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 500 SE Sunnyside School Road. The event is free and is open to the public.
Residents are invited to learn how the Public Works Department operates and interacts with resident’s every-day lives. Events include demonstrations, equipment displays, refreshments, and prizes to round out the activities planned.
“Our Open House Celebration gives us an opportunity to invite the public to see firsthand the broad spectrum of services and programs that the Public Works Department provides the Blue Springs community,” said Chris Sandie, Director of Public Works.
The City’s Public Works employees maintain the public infrastructure including streets, signals, signs, water and sanitary sewer utilities, street and storm water sewer, and fleet maintenance.
The week-long celebration from May 18-24 honors the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works.
Instituted as a public education campaign by the American Public Works Association in 1960, NPWW calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. The week seeks to enhance the prestige of the often–unsung heroes of our society – the public work professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication.
