[ARCHIVED] Don’t throw out those old strand lights – recycle them!

Blue Springs, Mo. – Do you have a pile of broken or unwanted strand lights? Are you upgrading your traditional strand lights with energy-efficient LED lights? This holiday season, don’t throw out your old strand lights – recycle them!

The City of Blue Springs is teaming up with Southeast Enterprises to offer residents the opportunity to recycle their broken or unwanted strand lights at no cost. The copper and wiring in the light cords will be recycled and the plastic will be made into plastic lumber.

Residents can bring their unwanted strand lights to the Pink Hill Park Recycling Center from November 17, 2013 through January 26, 2014 during normal hours of operation. The Pink Hill Park Recycling Center located at 2725 NW Park Road, is open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Additional collection centers include the Blue Springs Wal-Mart Supercenter and both Blue Springs Mid-Continent Library branches. For a complete list of drop-off locations throughout the region and additional information, visit www.southeastenterprises.org/kcrecyclelights.

Last year, the combined efforts of Southeast Enterprises, sponsors and residents throughout the Greater Kansas City Area helped divert over 32,000 pounds of holiday lights from area landfills. In addition to keeping the holiday lights out of the landfill, Southeast Enterprises will be providing work for over 160 employees with developmental disabilities.
