Blue Springs, Mo. – Residents are invited to participate in a community visioning kick-off event for the City’s Comprehensive Plan Update on Tuesday, May 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Pointe Conference Center, 1400 NE Coronado Dr., Blue Springs, Mo. Those unable to attend in person are encouraged to participate in the City’s tweet-a-long via the City’s Twitter account (@BlueSpringsGov) by using the hashtag #planupdate.
The City of Blue Springs is currently in the process of updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Unified Development Code. Last adopted in 2003, the Comprehensive Plan looks toward the future of the community and is used to identify the vision, principles, and values that will guide the growth of Blue Springs. Similarly the City’s Unified Development Code (UDC) includes zoning and design requirements that need to be updated in conjunction with the Comprehensive Plan. Through this update process, we plan to enhance the clarity of our codes and simplify the development process in accordance with the vision, principles and values of the Comprehensive Plan.
The Comprehensive Plan Update will generally address the following elements, among others that are brought up in the plan process:
• Overall community vision
• Neighborhoods
• Economic Development
• Transportation
• Health
• Environment
The City of Blue Springs will be working with a consultant team lead by Gould Evans to facilitate the public process to update the Comprehensive Plan and UDC. The team is working with a steering committee and will host several stakeholder meetings to review elements of the current plan and develop recommendations for the Comprehensive Plan update.
The update process is expected to take 6-9 months and will feature multiple public input opportunities. As the committee sets the schedule for future meetings those dates and times will be posted on the City of Blue Springs’ website at www.bluespringsgov.com/compplanupdate. All meetings related to the Blue Springs Comprehensive Plan Update are open to the public and interested citizens are encouraged to attend.
