[ARCHIVED] “March with the Mayor” event April 12 at noon at Blue Springs City Hall

Blue Springs, Mo. – Mayor Carson Ross invites the community to celebrate Spring and good health by joining him for a 30-minute walk on Friday, April 12 beginning at City Hall, 903 W. Main Street. Mayor Ross will welcome walkers and warm-up activities begin at noon, with the walk through downtown Blue Springs beginning at 12:15 p.m. Greg Beitling from Lit Fitness will lead the warm-up activities and the Kansas City Chiefs mascot, KC Wolf, will be at the March to cheer on the walkers.

“I invite everyone to join me for a spirited walk through downtown Blue Springs,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “This event is a great way show people how easy it is to put on your tennis shoes and get moving over your lunch hour.”

The American Heart Association recently said that the simplest, positive change you can make to effectively improve your heart health is to start walking. It's enjoyable, free, easy, social and great exercise. A walking program is flexible and boasts high success rates because people can stick with it.

Over 200 walkers are expected to ‘March’ with Mayor Ross through downtown Blue Springs. Students from Plaza Heights, St. John LaLane, Thomas Ultican and community partners from StandUp Blue Springs, Let’s Move! Blue Springs, Blue Springs Family YMCA, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Blue Springs Police Department, Central Jackson County Fire Protection District, Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce, Blue Springs School District, Blue Springs Downtown Alive!, Club 7 Fitness and the Blue Springs Responsible Unleashed Fun for Fido (RUFF) chapter will participate in this year’s event.
March with the Mayor is a unique community-wide event in which participants are invited to join the Mayor for a 30-minute walk. This program began in 2009 and has since partnered with the Let’s Move! Blue Springs and other community partners to promote wellness, heart healthy lifestyles and help combat childhood obesity in Blue Springs.

Let’s Move! Blue Springs is a program of StandUp Blue Springs in partnership with the City of Blue Springs. If you would like more information about the Let’s Move! Blue Springs program, contact StandUp Blue Springs at (816) 478-4500.
