BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The City of Blue Springs’s Community Development Department will begin accepting applications from eligible first time home buyers on Nov. 8, 2010 to participate in the City’s First Time Home Buyer Program.

The City of Blue Springs was designated as an Entitlement Community under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Funds must be used to benefit low-to-moderate-income persons, address slums and/or blight or address a particular urgent community need (disaster). The City Council has approved $39,000.00 in grant funds for the First Time Home Buyer Program for the program year beginning October 1, 2010.

Grants under the First Time Home Buyer Program will be issued in the maximum amount of $3,000 and will be available to households that meet the established income limits to be used for:
• Up to 50% of the required down payment
• Reasonable closing costs normally associated with the purchase of a home
• A combination of the above, not to exceed $3,000.

Grants are awarded on a first-come first-served basis.
