Blue Springs to Dedicate New Playground, November 22:
City’s new “Exer-Playground” is the first of its kind, funded by HUD
Blue Springs, Mo. – On Saturday, November 22, 2008, the Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department will dedicate its newest and most unique playground at Blue Springs Park, 2204 SW South Avenue Blue Springs, MO 64015. The dedication event begins at 2:00 p.m. and will include a short ceremony highlighting the significance of the new equipment.
The new playground unit, designed by Game Time Playcore, is referred to as an “Exer-Playground” which allows children to engage in exercise and fitness activities while playing on the equipment. Parks and Recreation Director Roscoe Righter said, “This equipment is one of our newest efforts to help combat the trends in childhood obesity in our community.”
Righter said the equipment is comprised of several distinctive and appealing configurations that invite children to play and move in a variety of ways. “The equipment enables children to explore different play patterns as they stretch, move and use the equipment in methods not found on traditional play equipment”.
Judy Qualkinbush, community business owner and Public Relations Co-Chair of the Blue Springs Families in Training (F.I.T.) program is equally excited about the new addition to Blue Springs Park. “It’s so exciting to see such a valuable piece of equipment become available to our children and families. The new playground equipment will help promote childhood health, physical strength development and body coordination in children, all of which add to the overall health and wellness of our youth.
The exer-playgound is also the first and only playground in the Blue Springs parks system that has been funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). For more information, contact Roscoe Righter at (816) 228-0110.
