Paper Shredding Event

Holiday Light Recycling Collection Drive

From November 17, 2012 – January 13, 2013 the City of Blue Springs partnered with Southeast Enterprises and St. Louis Green to offer residents the opportunity to recycle broken or unwanted light strands at no cost.  The copper and wiring in the light cords was recycled and the plastic made into plastic lumber.  In addition to keeping the holiday lights out of the landfill, Southeast Enterprises provided challenging work for over 160 employees with developmental disabilities.  The goal for the Kansas City region was to collect 24,000 pounds of holiday lights.  Thanks to outstanding support from local and regional residents 31,000 pounds of holiday lights avoided the landfill!

The center accepts common recyclables such as glass, plastic, aluminum, tin cans, paper and cardboard materials. 

Hours:
• Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Glass food and beverage container recycling is available at Price Chopper North (1305 NW 7 Hwy., Blue Springs) in the large purple Ripple Glass recycling bin.  Go to www.rippleglasskc.com for additional recycling locations and information.  

Containers should be rinsed but labels do not need to be removed.  Glass does not need to be sorted by color.  Plate glass and dishes such as pyrex glass cannot be accepted.  Price Chopper sells in-home glass collection recycling bins for $4.99.  This makes it easier for you to collect and transport glass containers to your preferred glass recycling collection location.
