Why does the City need to improve its current sewer treatment facilities?

Due to new regulations and compliance standards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR), an upgrade of the City’s sewer system is required to meet stricter discharge limits in order to comply with DNR’s 2009 permit schedule. These regulations are a requirement for the continued operation of the City’s sewer treatment system.

To meet these regulations, the sewer plant must undergo a number of improvements to enhance water quality for customers and the environment.
