[ARCHIVED] City Facilities Closed Thursday, March 10 for Inclement Weather, Unsafe Driving Conditions

City Hall in the Snow

Due to the major winter storm warning, Blue Springs City Hall, Vesper Hall Community Center, and The Fieldhouse will be closed to the public on Thursday, March 10, to ensure the safety of City employees.

Public Works Snow Removal and Public Safety staff will continue to perform normal operations. The City’s phones will still be answered, and staff will be working remotely where applicable. Residents can call 816-228-0110.

City facilities will reopen Friday, March 11, for normal business hours.

The Blue Springs Municipal Court Docket for Friday, March 11, is canceled. All cases set for this date will be reset and notices sent with the new court date.

Both home delivery and onsite meal programs offered through Vesper Hall will be suspended and all recreation programs are canceled tomorrow.

The National Weather Service issued a major winter storm warningfor the Kansas City region. The storm system is expected to bring 5-9 inches of snow beginning Wednesday evening and continuing throughout the day Thursday and into Friday morning.

Due to this warning, the City of Blue Springs urges residents to avoid unnecessary travel tomorrow and move vehicles off all streets for the duration of the storm.  Vehicles parked on streets impede plowing efforts and can slow emergency response vehicles.

Public Works primary crews will be pre-treating the roads in anticipation for tonight’s storm and are expected to enter Phase I operations early tomorrow morning.  Crews will be working in 12-hour shifts until the storm subsides and streets are clear. Updates will be available on the City’s website and social media outlets.  Residents are encouraged to follow the City on Twitter and  Facebook for the most recent updates.
