On Monday, December 13, the Blue Springs City Council held a special meeting to adopt a resolution stating the City of Blue Springs was in opposition to any future mask mandates imposed by the Jackson County Legislature or the Jackson County Health Department. The measure was approved 5-0.

The special meeting and resolution were proposed by District 2 Councilmembers Chris Lievsay and Kent Edmondson in response to a proposed resolution by the Jackson County Legislature to reinstate the mask mandate. The Jackson County measure failed 5-4 during the Legislature’s 10 a.m. meeting on December 13.

The City’s resolution makes it clear that the Blue Springs City Council does not support a return to the COVID-19 mask mandates of Jackson County, whether issued by its Legislature or its Health Department.

Even though the Jackson County Legislature did not pass the mask mandate on today’s County agenda, the Blue Springs City Council felt it was important to pass this resolution in order to reiterate our position that we are opposed to any further mask mandates on Blue Springs residents and businesses,” said Kent Edmondson, Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem.

The City’s resolution does not nullify the authority the Jackson County Health Department has on food establishments or other businesses that require County licenses to operate
