The City of Blue Springs is aware of the notice from Kansas City Water Services. Blue Springs will not be affected by the changes in water because we have shut off the valve from Kansas City and are only taking water from Independence and Tri-County Water Authority. Both of these suppliers pump their water from a subsurface aquifer and are not affected by the rising levels of the Missouri River.
The tests conducted by Kansas City were from water treated this morning and the Kansas City line was shut down immediately upon notice.
Shutting down the Kansas City line will not affect water supply to our customers. During this time of year, the City of Blue Springs uses around 4 million gallons per day and the 1 million gallons per day we take from KC can be easily offset by our other suppliers.
Kansas City anticipates their system will be back within parameters in the next few days as the river level decreases. At that time we will flush the line from Kansas City and then return to normal operations.
The City of Blue Springs continuously monitors and tests the quality of the water we deliver to our citizens to ensure the highest standards.
