[ARCHIVED] Mayor to appoint Mike Spiegel as Interim Prosecuting Attorney

The City of Blue Springs is pleased to announce that Mayor Carson Ross has chosen to appoint Mike Spiegel as Interim City Prosecuting Attorney effective October 1, 2018.

Current City Prosecuting Attorney Vernon Scoville announced his retirement plans in late August. Scoville’s final Blue Springs Municipal Court docket is Sept. 30, 2018.

Spiegel has served the City as the Assistant City Prosecuting Attorney since September 2017. In addition to his duties in Blue Springs, Spiegel also serves as the Prosecuting Attorney for the City of Buckner and prior to that he was Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office. Spiegel also has experience as an attorney in private law firms specializing in criminal, civil and domestic litigation and special prosecution.

“Mike has served the community well as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the last year and I believe he will do an excellent job as Interim Prosecuting Attorney during this transitional period,” said Mayor Carson Ross.

Mayor Ross said he will move forward with a formal hiring process to search for the full time Prosecuting Attorney later this fall.

The formal appointment of Spiegel as Interim Prosecuting Attorney will be made at the October 1, 2018 City Council Meeting.
