[ARCHIVED] Jacqueline Sommer Appointed as New City Attorney

Blue Springs, Mo. – Mayor Carson Ross has appointed Jacqueline Sommer to the position of City Attorney effective March 1, 2017. 

“Jacqueline is held in high regard by the legal community and brings with her extensive knowledge of Jackson County.  We look forward to Jacqueline joining our team and continuing the excellence and professionalism that Blue Springs is known for,” said Mayor Carson Ross.

The City Attorney provides legal counsel and advice to the Mayor, City Council, Boards, Commissions, and all departments of the City of Blue Springs. 

“I am very excited to be able to serve a vibrant and growing community like Blue Springs,” said Sommer.  “I look forward to working with the Mayor, City Council and City staff and becoming involved in the community.”

Prior to accepting this position, Sommer served as a Deputy County Counselor for Jackson County, Mo. for over 12 years.  She also served as an Assistant Prosecutor for Jackson County for 11 years.   Sommer is a member of the Eastern Jackson County and Kansas City Bar Associations, American Bankruptcy Institute, International Association of Assessing Officers, Independence Junior Service League and an Executive Board member of the Independence Youth Court.

Jacqueline is a graduate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a degree in Economics and a Doctorate in Law.  Sommer is licensed to practice in Kansas and Missouri, the U.S. District Courts of Kansas and Missouri, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
