Residents Asked to Help Map the Future of Parks and Recreation
Blue Springs, Mo. –Blue Springs’ Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting their second public meeting for community input on the creation of the Parks Master Plan. This meeting will be held on Thursday, May 12 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Blue Springs Freshman Center at 2103 NW Vesper Street. Residents, business owners, sports groups and any other parties interested in the Blue Springs Parks system are welcome to attend and share ideas.
“A Parks Master Plan plays a vital role in shaping a successful community,” said Parks & Recreation Director Dennis Dovel. “Continued input from community members is necessary to shape the vision for our parks and help create a unique sense of place for residents and business owners.”
Data from the citizens surveys completed earlier this year along with additional findings will be reported at the meeting to allow residents the chance to comment on the information and share their ideas.
The Parks Master Plan process will evaluate the needs and desires of the community to determine future recreational and open space options. To assist with this process, the City has retained the consulting team of GreenPlay, LLC, a national parks, recreation, and open space consulting firm. Expected completion of the Parks Master Plan is set for October 2016.
The City of Blue Springs Parks system is made up of 14 developed public parks, 6 undeveloped parks and an 18-hole golf course. In total, the parks system has 819 acres of park land located throughout the Blue Springs community.
