[ARCHIVED] Blue Springs Welcomes Team USA Women’s National Softball Exhibition Game

Blue Springs, Mo. – On Saturday, June 27, Team USA will be playing Team KC in an exhibition-style softball game in Hidden Valley Sports Complex located at 6500 N.W. Valley View Road. Gameplay begins at 6 p.m. with a special autograph session with Team USA immediately following the game.

Team KC is made up of 24 players from various summer softball leagues and area high schools. There are five players from Blue Springs High School: Alexis Reid, Pitcher; Darian Frost, Catcher; Erin Keeney, first base/third base; Lonnie Groves, shortstop; and Madison Sykes, third base/ shortstop. One player from Blue Springs South High School, Makenzie Musgrove, will be playing third base/shortstop.

“We are honored to host Team USA and this national softball exhibition game,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “It is an excellent opportunity for our own Blue Springs players to showcase their skills and for the KC Metro area to see what Blue Springs has to offer.”

Team USA is a women’s softball team and a member of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA). As the governing body of softball in the United States, the ASA is the only softball association recognized by the US Olympic Committee and acts as the funding source for the various USA Softball National teams.

Each year, the Women’s US National teams go on the road for a series of exhibition games. For 2015, the players will stop in Texas, Maryland, New Jersey and Ohio along with their game here in Blue Springs.

Tickets are still available for this event and can be purchased online at kcmetroasa.com and must be picked up in the Will Call area at Hidden Valley Softball Complex, Field 7 during the following times:

• June 20: Noon to 5 p.m.
• June 21: Noon to 5 p.m.
• June 25: 4-8 p.m.
• June 26: Noon to 7 p.m.
• June 27: Day of the event, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This is the first time we have brought Team USA to the KC Metro area for exhibition games,” said ASA Region 12 Director, Mary Mahoney. “We are looking forward to watching these two teams play and giving fans the opportunity to see the National Women’s Softball team as they make their way to the World Cup of Softball and other international games.”
