Blue Springs, Mo. – City Administrator Eric Johnson has named Sheryl Morgan as the new City Clerk effective December 13, 2014. Morgan will succeed City Clerk Kathy Richardson who will retire on December 12, 2014. Richardson started her career with the City of Blue Springs in March 1999 as the Assistant City Clerk, and was promoted to City Clerk in March 2007.
“Sheryl’s experience, legal expertise, community involvement and focus on process improvements are strengths that will allow her to serve the Blue Springs community with distinction,” said City Administrator Eric Johnson. “Sheryl has worked for the City of Blue Springs for over 5 years, four as Assistant City Clerk with Kathy Richardson. During her time in the organization she has consistently impressed us with her dedication to customer service, ability to manage multiple complex issues, knowledge of the position requirements, and innovation for improved service delivery. We look forward to supporting her as she takes on this new role.”
Morgan currently serves the City as a legal assistant for the City Attorney. In this role, she serves as project manager for the Blue Springs Land Bank and handles internal contracting procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation provided to the City Clerks’ Office. Morgan also serves as Chair of Eastern Jackson County Municipal Challenge Planning Committee, is a member of the City’s Process Improvement team, past graduate of the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy and Citizens’ Police Academy, current board member of Operation Thermal Reunion and past president of Girls on the Run of Kansas City, Missouri.
“I have a true love for the Blue Springs community and I am very excited to be able to serve in this new role,” said Morgan. “I look forward to working with the City Council and City staff and becoming more involved in the community.”
Prior to accepting this position, Morgan served as the City’s Assistant City Clerk for over four years. She has also served as a paralegal and office manager for a local law firm. Morgan has served as a patent assistant for Hovey Williams LLP where she coordinated filings with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Sheryl also worked at Sprint for over seven years in a progressively increased capacity. While at Sprint, she led operational planning, implementation and post-launch testing of marketing initiatives and managed relationships with external partners.
