Blue Springs, Mo. – Mayor Carson Ross invites the community to celebrate the one year anniversary of Blue Springs becoming a Let’s Move! city by joining him for a 30-minute walk on Friday, March 30 beginning at Blue Springs City Hall, 903 W. Main Street. Mayor Ross will welcome walkers and warm-up activities beginning at noon, with the walk through downtown Blue Springs beginning at 12:15 p.m. The Kansas City Chiefs mascot, KC Wolf, will be at the March to cheer on the walkers.
Mayor Ross will lead the walk to demonstrate how easy it is to put on your tennis shoes and get moving over your lunch hour. Mayor Ross stated “experts say that 30 minutes of daily movement helps promote increased wellness and a heart-healthy lifestyle.”
“I invite everyone to join me for a quick walk around downtown Blue Springs! This walk is a celebration of our first year as a Let’s Move! city,” said Mayor Carson Ross. “I’m so proud of the work that the Let’s Move! Blue Springs workgroups have done over the past year. Let’s Move! Saturdays continue to be very popular and we are gearing up for the first grow season in the new Blue Springs Community Garden!”
The Blue Springs City Council unanimously passed a resolution of commitment on March 7, 2011 supporting the Let’s Move! initiative. The Let’s Move! Blue Springs initiative is being facilitated by StandUp Blue Springs. The workgroups identified 8 initial projects in the July 2011 citizen summit including a community garden, expansion of the Blue Springs School District’s Back Snack program, support of Girls on the Run, healthy food in schools/nutrition classes in schools, a kid’s triathlon, Let’s Move! Saturdays, livable streets with walking trails and public relations. If you are interested in participating in the workgroups, call StandUp Blue Springs at (816) 478-4500.
