[ARCHIVED] Blue Springs to hold Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Blue Springs, Mo. – The City of Blue Springs will host its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at Pink Hill Park located at 2715 NW Park Road in Blue Springs, MO, just west of James Lewis Elementary School off North 7 Highway.

Those attending the event are asked to access Pink Hill Park using Park Road, located on the south side of the park. Traffic to the Pink Hill Park Recycling center is expected to be impacted due to the popularity of this event. The Pink Hill Park Recycling Center is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is a full Household Hazardous Waste event which means items that will be accepted include: automotive fluids, batteries, CFL light bulbs, household cleaners, hazardous liquids and solvents, lawn and garden products, pesticides, pool chemicals, paints and related products. Explosives, tires, asbestos, and yard, medical and commercial waste will not be accepted at any Household Hazardous Waste mobile event.

This event is free to Blue Springs residents as well as other participating communities in the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program.

For those unable to attend this event, permanent drop-off facilities for these materials are available to Blue Springs residents year-round at the Kansas City Recycling Facility, at 4707 Deramus, in the east river bottoms, (816) 513-8400 or the Lee’s Summit Resource Recovery Park, 2101 SE Hamblin Rd, (816) 969-7516. Please contact these facilities directly for directions and hours of operation. Appointments are required at drop-off facilities.
