Blue Springs Art Commission Announces 2010 Call to Artists
“Time in Place” holds special connection to City’s 2010 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Exhibit
Blue Springs, Mo. – The Blue Springs Public Art Commission has announced its Call to Artists for the 2010 Temporary Art Exhibit in Blue Springs, Missouri. This year’s art exhibit is entitled “Time in Place” and will be open to the public from April 1, 2010 through October 3, 2010. This is the fifth year the Art Commission has offered the temporary exhibit.
This year’s exhibit will be located in Pink Hill Pak, a 40 acre site in north Blue Springs. Public Art Commission Chair, Eleanor Frasier said “the Commission selected this particular site due to the several thousands of visitors the City expects to receive when it brings the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial exhibit, The Wall that Heals, to Pink Hill Park in September 2010.”
“The exhibit will utilize several areas in and around the grounds at Pink Hill Park with the expectation that featured artworks will have the ability to closely connect with children, families and visitors coming to the park to experience ‘The Wall that Heals’ exhibition, said Frasier.”
Additional information about the Blue Springs The Wall that Heals, will be announced in September 2009.
Four artists will be selected to provide a work of art for the seven-month temporary exhibit. Frasier added, “the artwork should be unique and original, not a copy or limited edition.”
This Call to Artists is open to all professional artists over the age of eighteen (18). Emerging and professional artists are encouraged to apply. Artists working in a wide variety of media and forms will be considered. Such media include, but are not limited to bronze, stone, textiles, paint, wood and metal. It is suggested that the artwork relate to the theme of “Time in Place” or how the phrase relates to the Blue Springs community. While the scope of the artwork is not limited to times of war, artists are encouraged to consider the time and place of this year’s exhibit and how it relates to the presence of the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Blue Springs.
