The Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department is currently conducting its first Parks Master Plan. The purpose of this plan is to develop a comprehensive vision for Parks & Recreation including management of open spaces, recreation opportunities and programming related to location, natural resources and visions of the community. Once created, this Master Plan will serve as a framework for the long-term use and development of parks and facilities.
The City Council and staff will use the Parks Master Plan to assess current and future recreational needs, evaluate feasible development options, create a strategic action plan, and budget for long-term or phased-in development and improvements. The plan will lay out an organizational framework for improving parks and recreation facilities, programs, and services to better serve the public by shaping the delivery of local parks and recreation services, programs, and activities in a manner that is consistent with the City’s current Comprehensive Plan and policy agenda.
The Planning Process
Resident input is a major part of developing a vision and creating a priority list to be included in the master planning process for Blue Springs’ future parks system. The Parks Master Plan process will evaluate the needs and desires of the community to determine future recreational and open space options.
In May, the Blue Springs’ Parks and Recreation Department hosted their second public meeting for community input on the creation of the Parks Master Plan. At the meeting, GreenPlay, LLC shared results from the citizens surveys along with additional findings allowing residents the chance to comment on the information and share their ideas.
